Common indoor environment problems

A home should provide protection and be free from disturbances. Poor indoor environments can be caused by:

  • cold or drafts,
  • excessive heat,
  • noise,
  • air pollution or other disturbances.

Such problems can affect both comfort and health.

Who should I contact?

If you have problems with the indoor environment:

  1. Contact your landlord or housing association.
  2. If you do not receive help and the problems remain, you can contact the municipality’s Environment and Building Unit for an assessment.

The property owner’s responsibility

Property owners and landlords are responsible for ensuring that housing maintains a good indoor environment.

Self-inspection

Self-inspection is a tool for planning and following up on how the property affects health and the environment. It means regularly identifying risks and ensuring that measures are taken in time.
