Apply for parking permits and assisted transport

The guide explains how to apply for a parking permit and assisted transport in Boden Municipality, as well as the rules that apply.

Updated:

Please note that all forms and digital applications (e-services) are currently in Swedish. Contact Citizen Service if you need help in English.

1. Parking permit for people with reduced mobility

1.1 Who can apply?

You must have significant difficulty walking. The permit is personal, and the person with walking difficulties must be the applicant. If you are a passenger rather than a driver, you must also regularly need assistance outside the vehicle.

1.2 Application process

  1. Apply via the municipality’s e-services or by sending in a paper form (available at the bottom of the page).
  2. Attach a current medical certificate describing your disability and walking ability.
  3. Provide a photo attachment with a new photo and your signature in the designated space.
  4. Processing time is normally 3-6 weeks.
  5. Once the decision is made, collect the permit in person at the town hall with valid ID. If you already have a permit, the old one must be returned.
  6. If your application is rejected, you have the right to appeal within three weeks.

1.3 Rules and conditions

The permit is valid nationwide in Sweden and in most EU countries. You may use designated accessible parking spaces and certain restricted zones for limited periods, usually between 3–24 hours depending on location. In Boden, parking is generally free, but a parking disc must be used. Exemptions from parking fees may vary in other municipalities. Lost or stolen permits must be reported to the police and to the municipality in order to receive a replacement.

2. Assisted transport

2.1 Who can apply?

People with a long-term disability (at least three months) who have substantial difficulty walking or using public transport. Lack of public transport alone is not sufficient grounds.

2.2 Application process

  1. Apply via the e-service or contact Citizen Services by phone.
  2. Attach a medical certificate for the assisted transport officer (form available at the bottom of the page).
  3. Processing time is normally 3-6 weeks.
  4. The officer will schedule an appointment at City hall or phone call for an assessment.
  5. You will be informed of the decision by phone and letter. If denied, you may appeal within three weeks.

2.3 Scope of the service

The service applies within Boden and up to 50 kilometers into neighboring municipalities, measured from the municipal border. It cannot be used for medical trips to healthcare providers, which are booked through the region. The fare is based on the Länstrafiken single ticket price plus 50 percent, rounded up to the nearest krona. Youths aged 7–19 pay half price, and children under 7 travel free. Work and study trips may be eligible for a 20 percent discount. If a taxi is more than 15 minutes late within the municipality, the trip is free.

2.4 Book a trip

  • For trips within the municipality, call 0921-782 00 at least one hour in advance.
  • The taxi may arrive up to 15 minutes before or after the booked time.
  • For trips up to 50 km into neighboring municipalities, call the same number at least one day in advance.
  • The taxi may arrive up to two hours before or after the booked time. When booking, provide your name, phone number, pick-up address, destination, and note if you require an escort, use mobility aids, or need an allergy-friendly vehicle.
