Please note that all forms and digital applications (e-services) are currently in Swedish. Contact Citizen Service if you need help in English.

1. Overview – What is ISB?

  1. International School of Boden (ISB) is a municipal international school in Boden that provides instruction in English following the International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes:
  • PYP (Primary Years Programme) for students aged 6–11
  • MYP (Middle Years Programme) for students aged 12–16
  • DP (Diploma Programme) for students aged 16–19

2. Who can apply?

  1. To be admitted to ISB, students must meet at least one of the following criteria:
  • The student belongs to an international family moving to Boden with the intention of staying for a limited period.
  • The student has previously attended an international school abroad as their main schooling.

Attending an international preschool is not a requirement. Students who are registered residents of Boden municipality are given priority.

3. Programme overview

  • PYP (ages 6–11): Located at Torpgärdsskolan, based on inquiry-based learning. Ends with a major exhibition.
  • MYP (ages 12–16): Located at Stureskolan. Covers eight subject areas and concludes with a personal project. Students are assessed according to the IB grading scale (1–7).
  • DP (ages 16–19): Offered at Björknäsgymnasiet. Consists of six subject groups and three core components: Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Extended Essay (EE), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS). Students must achieve at least 24 of 45 points to earn the full diploma.

Step 1 – Check which programme suits the student’s age:

6–11 years: PYP
12–16 years: MYP
16–19 years: DP

Step 2 – Verify that you meet the admission criteria.

Step 3 – Download the application form for the respective programme.

Step 4 – Complete the form carefully. Provide personal details, living situation, previous schooling, and which admission criterion the student meets. Attach copies of relevant documents such as certificates, transcripts, or relocation documents.

Step 5 – Submit the application according to the instructions on the form.

  • PYP and MYP: applications are accepted on a rolling basis
  • DP: applications are accepted in January–February each year
  • For late arrivals after the application period: contact isb@boden.se for individual review

5. After applying

Admission decisions are sent continuously. Priority is given according to the criteria and based on whether the student is registered as a resident in Boden. If there are more applicants than places, the municipality reserves the right to deny admission even if criteria are met.

6. Practical information

The school shares facilities with Swedish schools, but all teaching is conducted in English and follows the IB pedagogy. Students are offered daily cooked lunches, and there are opportunities for linguistic and social exchange with Swedish students through joint activities and buddy programmes.
